My mommy took me shopping to have a look around,
to see what kind of coats they sell in the best shops in town.
We walked to a store with a large window display,
saying, "coats of all sizes for very little pay."
The sales lady in the shop was helpful and kind,
she showed me coats I wouldn't mind.
She showed me coats with shiny buttons and pockets galore,
coats of every size in her store.
There were small ones, big ones, medium sized too,
so many coats how do you choose?
There were red ones, green ones, purple too,
coats in black, white and blue.
Coats made of wool, silk and leather,
coats for any kind of weather.
Coats with hoods, some without,
some coats you wear inside out.
There were trench coats and raincoats to keep you dry in the rain,
coats for just about anything.
There were long ones, short ones, in between too,
thick ones, thin ones, just to name a few.
Coats for winter, spring, summer and fall,
hundreds of coats along the wall.
Coats with trim of ribbon and lace,
with fur and feathers to add style and grace.
I stood in the store with confusion and doubt,
the coat I wanted was nowhere about.
And then I saw it out of the corner of my eye,
could this be the one, would it be the right size?
When the mommy saw it she gave aloud gasp,
we couldn't believe it, we had found one at last.
It was everything I was hoping it would be,
the colored coat looked perfect on me.
The coat was yellow, orange, black and blue,
it had so many pockets too.
It had ruffles, patches, buttons and lace,
everything in its rightful place.
We purchased the coat and with my head held high,
we walked down the street my colored coat and I.
